Potential Benefits of Psychedelic Assisted Therapy:

Deep Exploration

Psychedelics induce altered states of consciousness, allowing individuals to explore aspects of their psyche and emotions that may be challenging to access through traditional therapy alone. These altered states can offer a fresh perspective on life, relationships, and one's own identity.

Neural Plasticity

Psychedelics have shown potential benefits on neuroplasticity, the brain's ability to adapt and reorganize. Research suggests psilocybin may promote increased synaptic plasticity and the formation of new neural connections, fostering a more flexible and adaptive brain structure. These effects could contribute to enhanced learning, emotional resilience, and potentially play a role in the treatment of mental health disorders.

Holistic Healing

Psychedelic therapy often emphasizes a holistic approach, considering not just the symptoms but also the underlying causes of mental health challenges. This can lead to comprehensive and enduring healing.

Inner Healing Intelligence:

One of the key attractions of psychedelic therapy is its ability to tap into the individual's inner healing intelligence. This internal guide can catalyze profound and lasting changes, providing insights and perspectives that might not be readily available in ordinary states of consciousness.

Spiritual Experiences

Psychedelics have been known to facilitate spiritual or mystical experiences. For individuals seeking a deeper connection to their spirituality or a sense of the transcendent, psychedelic-assisted therapy can offer a unique avenue for exploration.

Research and Evidence-Based Approaches

Ongoing research is providing increasing evidence for the efficacy and safety of psychedelic-assisted therapy. This growing body of knowledge contributes to the credibility and acceptance of this therapeutic approach.

You will spend a minimum of 3 sessions with your Guide getting oriented and ready for your journey.  When this readiness is apparent, the medicine session (or “dosing” session) will be booked.

Medicine Day

This refers to the day you complete your journey, which will take between 4-6 hours, depending on the dose you take, and your own metabolic speed.

Integration

Over the next 3 months, our guides will work with you to help make meaning of what you experienced and integrate your experience into your life. We'll have sessions booked at 24-hour, 1-week, 6-week, and 3-month marks after your journey, to ensure you have the support you need throughout the healing process.

FAQ

What are psychedelics? And what therapies are you trained in?

The word psychedelic comes from Greek roots meaning “mind manifesting.” It refers to a class of substances—some naturally occurring, others synthesized—that can temporarily alter perception, mood, and cognition. Psychedelics are known for inducing “non-ordinary” or expanded states of consciousness, often described as deeply reflective or insightful.

At Alethia, our clinicians have advanced training in psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT) and are committed to providing ethical, evidence-informed care that aligns with all federal and provincial regulations. We work with the following modalities within legally available and regulated pathways:

  • Ketamine-assisted therapy

  • MDMA-assisted therapy

  • Psilocybin-assisted therapy

What do psychedelics do?

Psychedelics can produce a wide range of psychological and emotional effects, depending on the substance, dosage, and individual. These effects may include shifts in awareness, perception, emotional processing, and a heightened sense of meaning or connection.

Research into the potential therapeutic benefits of psychedelics is ongoing. A growing body of evidence suggests that certain psychedelic substances may have potential in treating depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and substance use disorders.

Psychedelic-assisted therapy should only be explored in professionally supervised, legally approved settings.

Is this legal?

Psychedelic-assisted therapy is not generally available in Canada.

  • Ketamine-assisted therapy for mental health concerns may be used off-label.  This means its use is permitted for mental health conditions under the supervision of a qualified health care provider, but it is not officially endorsed by Health Canada.

  • Psilocybin and MDMA are not approved therapeutic products in Canada. They are not authorized for sale, and their safety and efficacy have not been confirmed by Health Canada’s standard scientific review process.

  • Psilocybin-assisted and MDMA-assisted therapies are not yet approved for general medical use in Canada. They may be accessed in specific circumstances only through: Health Canada’s Special Access Program (SAP), Authorized clinical trials, or Section 56(1) exemptions under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  These circumstances may include serious or life-threatening conditions when conventional treatments have not been effective or are unavailable. Our team has experience supporting clients through this application process where appropriate. Health Canada has not authorized these products for sale, and their safety, efficacy, and quality have not been assessed through the standard scientific review process. Health Canada is currently studying these treatments through authorized clinical trials.

What’s the cost? And do my benefits cover it?

Here’s a general outline of the costs associated with psychedelic-assisted therapy at Alethia:

  • Application support (for regulated access pathways) – $400

  • Preparation sessions – $200 per session

  • Therapy session (medicine day) – $2400 (6–8 hours with two guides)

  • Integration sessions – $200 per session

What ages do you work with?

We currently work with adults aged 18 and over who meet the criteria for psychedelic-assisted therapy through legally available pathways.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

You do not need a referral to begin the consultation process with us.

If your case may be eligible for legal access to a psychedelic substance under a regulated pathway, we will support the process in collaboration with our medical team. We also encourage you to speak with your primary care provider to keep them informed.
